Adoption has been a dream for our family years in the making. We have prayed and planned and January of this year, we felt the time was right to begin the process. We signed with our agency in February and began our home study. For those new to the adoption world, the home study is the process by which the adoption agency learns all about your family and deems you suitable to bring a child into your home. It’s intense, personal, and can feel a bit overwhelming in the best of circumstances. There are fingerprints, physicals, and a myriad of appointments. Enter, COVID-19, and that process gets a bit trickier. Luckily, the majority of our home study was completed before the outbreak began. We do however have two outstanding prayer requests.
As part of the home study our social worker has to tour our home at least once. We’ve been able to handle the majority of our process via zoom, but will not be able to move forward with home study completion until this home tour takes place. Secondly, Andrew and I both need physicals to complete the home study and are currently searching for a doctor’s office who will agree to see us in the middle of this crisis. We ask you to pray with us on these two steps so we can move forward in our process.
Adopting amidst COVID-19 isn’t what we planned. Futures seem uncertain and our process most likely will not be as streamlined as we first hoped. But, we know and trust we are loved by a God who is not surprised by any of this. He knows the path He will lead us on and our response is to just take the next step through each open door He provides.
When our homestudy is complete (hopefully sometime in May), we will move to the next step, immigration! We’ll be writing more as the process continues and cannot wait to take everyone along on our journey!
